Why I am no longer active on social media

In today’s world, social media is overflowing with content—some of it educational and valuable, but much of it is a highlight reel of people showcasing their best moments and success stories. By no means is this inherently bad; when content provides insights or inspiration, it can be a net positive.

But as humans, we aren’t wired to process such an overwhelming volume of information. At least, I’m not. It’s all too easy to feel small when your feed is filled with highly productive people achieving milestone after milestone, while you’re sitting in your room after a bad day, questioning if you’re doing enough.

For a long time, I found myself caught in this cycle. I would scroll through endless posts of people seemingly living their best lives, only to forget how far I had come in my own journey. But when I took a step back and truly reflected, I realized something important: I am living a life that my past self could have never even dreamed of.

This realization led me to make a serious effort to disconnect from social media—and the impact has been astonishing. Over the past few months, I’ve experienced a noticeable boost in happiness and clarity. I’ve come to see how much of social media is just noise—distractions that add little to my life. Without it, I’ve felt more aligned with what truly matters:

• No more chasing trends just because they seem cool. • No more listening to the wrong people. • No more prioritizing external validation over living truer to myself.

It’s a simpler, more intentional way to live. And honestly? It's a much easier life to live.

Sometimes, the best way to move forward is to stop looking sideways.
